Action In Wellington

Just starting up a group to clean up, monitor and publicise the plastic flowing like chunky soup into Evans Bay. Anyone keen to help out is welcome to join in this Saturday the 4th of July, 1pm on the Evans Bay foreshore between the two roundabouts...the City Council are supplying rubbish disposal and gloves...

Other short term plans are to use the local papers to examine and put some more pressure on re the recycling/litter dispersal bins, filtered stormwater, general storm water awareness, potential/unquantified effects of plastic on marine wildlife/environment etc....Evans Bay foreshore as Wellingtons plastic "skid mark" is a good place to use to highlight these issues....

Could be an opportunity for some "this is what happens to your plastic bags" photos. Although this probably depends on the wind...if its southerly there might be more down at Petone!
